As the surgically sharp razor blade moves across your skin, it often takes more than it should, causing nicks, scratches or `razor burn', creating irritation and dryness. Even if the blade doesn't get you, the shaving cream might! Conventional foams and creams often contain detergents that contribute to draining the lipids from the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin. Lipids keep the skin looking and feeling healthy, by helping to hold the cells together and boosting the skin's capacity to retain moisture. Depletion of these lipids through the use of soap-based creams, followed by the application of alcohol-based aftershaves, leaves the skin feeling tight and dry.
